Day 11- Retreat and Renewal

Day 11 - Retreat and Renewal

“Silence is not the absence of something, but the presence of everything.” John Grossman

When was the last time that you truly stopped and simply spent time with your own spirit?

If you’re like many of us in this chaotic and hectic world of busyness, then I am sure that your life is filled with everything that you have to do, need to do and are expected do. But where does that leave time and space for our soul to be replenished, be renewed and revitalised?

While centuries ago it was quite common for young initiates to go away to a monastery to find themselves, in our modern times we are often overloaded with the expectations of what everyone else wants of us, that we rarely experience the quality times of pure silence, self-reflection and self-nourishment. Yet this is the very place that our true genius, creative expression and self-esteem arise.

We all need regular periods of retreat and renewal to replenish our mental, spiritual and emotional batteries.

We all need to spend time alone with ourselves in silence, in nature and in connection with our higher-selves. Yet why do we find this so hard to do?

I remember once having a client who was a typical A-type personality. She was a real gun when it came to business and her career as a professional speaker, yet for her, the thought of spending just 10 minutes sitting on the back veranda with just a cup of tea and nothing else to do seemed impossible. It was like a part of her felt that her life had to be filled completely, or it would simply fall apart. God knows what would happen if she was to find herself doing nothing! Yet I believe the biggest instigator of this pattern at an unconscious level was a feeling of guilt.

Isn’t it funny how we are so conditioned to do, do, do all the time, that we rarely give any credos or credit to simply stopping and being one with our spirit? I actually wonder what would happen if those in the western world fully discovered the incredible benefit that arises from sitting and being still, without purpose or intent.

Every great business, political and spiritual leader that I know has dedicated themselves to taking regular sabbaticals or mini-retreats in order to refuel and reactivate their inner-flame. Its therefore no surprise that both Jesus Christ and The Buddha found themselves spending many days and nights alone in the dessert or mountains. For it was here that they could hear the inspired guidance of their souls. It was here that they could finally reconnect with the innate-intelligence of the universe, the God source that flowed through them and was them. The good news is … that you and I can do the same.

The Practice

Today’s practice is simple. Sit and do nothing.

Simply be. Be one with your soul. Be one with your spirit. And just allow the divine energy of who you are to flow through you and in you.

Treat this time today as sacred space. Whether it be 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes or and hour. Allocate it to your soul and spirit and simply sit in the power, presence and expansiveness of your own soul.

After you have spent your time in personal retreat. Open a notebook or journal and allow an inspired thought of expansion, connection and illumination to come to you.

The Affirmation

I now open my heart and spirit to experience the incredible joy of this moment of silence.

The Question

Who am I in the silence between my thoughts?

The Thought

When I free my mind to the presence of nothing, I allow everything to become possible. There is no separation. There are no boundaries or limitations. In my retreat I become one with the universe of infinite possibilities, and it is here that I finally come to know that all things are possible.
